ACTION ITEMS summer 2025: clean out files now! Submit items to UK Surplus ASAP.

UK Surplus tips: small batches preferred, so don't save up too much.  UK Surplus and Trucking are running 2-4 weeks for pickups after forms are submitted.  Use generic descriptors: e.g., "12 chairs" is best, not "6 desk chairs, 6 conference chairs."

Materials Management & Waste/Lab Clean-Up

  • Waste Wizard: An interactive tool to help you know how to recycle or dispose of an item.
  • Hazardous Waste: Hazardous waste must be managed according to state and federal regulations and UK policy. The Environmental Quality Management Department (EQM) is available to provide consultation and pick-up services for all UK campus and HealthCare units to ensure safe and compliant hazardous waste management operations. Items in labs should be cleared by ESH, who will affix a certification note to items.

  • Chemical Redistribution: Many chemicals that laboratories, healthcare facilities and facility management areas submit as chemical waste are excess chemicals that are actually reusable. The objective of the Chemical Redistribution Program (CRP) is to collect chemicals from locations that no longer have use for them and redistribute them for use by others.
